A precipitation hardened austentic steel. We supply Air Melt material to ASTM A453 GR 660, with a guaranteed yield strength minimum of 105,000 PSI to meet the new 660D standard requirement. ASTM A453 GR 660 has high creep and excellent corrosion resistance and scaling resistance in air up to approximately 800°C (equivalent to Type 310 stainless).
All our material conforms to the new 660 grade D specification, but with stress rupture tests carried out to also conform to 660 grade A.
A286 is easier to machine than nickel-based precipitation-hardening grades or cobalt-bearing grades. Carbide insert tools are commonly used where possible.
Extensively used in most high stress component situations in Petrochemical, Aerospace and Oilfield industries for gas turbines, engines, shafts, pins, bolts, exhaust reheaters and thrust nozzles.
